A Public Service Message: Understanding Cup Size [15 Aug 2008|06:06am] sorikata I read a lot of porn stories. One of the most jarring things for me when reading a story is finding out that the author has no idea how bra size calculations actually work. This becomes exceptionally true when you start talking about stories where the woman is experiencing magical breast growth or something similar. So here's the quick and dirty on bra/breast sizing. There are two values in a bra size. The number and the letter. The number is refered to as the band size and is calculated by taking the circumference of the woman's ribs when there is no air in her lungs and then 'rounding' up (to allow for breathing). If the number is odd then you add 5", if it is even then you add 4". Therefor a woman who is wearing a 34X bra should have a rib measurement between 29 and 30 inches. Cup size on the other hand is taken from the difference of a second circumference. To get that, you measure evenly around the largest section of the bust. My estimation is that that is usually at the nipple but there could be some variations on a woman's body that I'm not aware of. You round that number to the nearest inch but don't add the 4 or 5 inches that you would for the ribs. (It is also possible to measure your ribs above your breasts but I think this gives a less accurate measure but if you do, you only add one inch for an odd number.) You now have two numbers.. rib number +4 or +5 and bust number. Subtract the rib number from the bust number. That difference is what allows you to calculate Cup size. 0-0.5" = AA Cup 0.5-1" = A Cup 2" = B Cup 3" = C Cup 4" = D Cup 5" = DD or E Cup 6" = DDD or F Cup 7" = G Cup 8" = H Cup 9" = I Cup 10" = J Cup Of course that's the very very basic cup chart. There are some bras that start counting E cup at 6". There are others that handle the difference based on your band size, so a 36 band with 5" difference is called a "full D cup", but a 32 band with a 6" difference is called a "DD cup". And don't even ask me where HH cups come from. I am guessing that H = 8" - 8.5" and HH = 8.5" - 9" but don't quote me on that. The main point here is that if the heroine of your story just grew some huge knockers, and jumped from a B cup to a H cup.. she did NOT jump from a 32B (very petite) to a 55H and if she did.. then she either grew a bunch of muscle or a bunch of fat in the process so don't go calling her a 55H 'with a petite athletic frame' because then you're just talking out of your ass. cmt
